Shamanic Journey into “Sacred Mountain”

This is a fun and healing journey into Sacred Mountain to meet the Animal Spirits who are guiding you on your path at this time. Then they will take you on a journey to see or experience something your soul knows you need to experience to fulfill something within you. Next you will be guided to visit one of your ancestors for a powerful message and gift. From here the animals take you back into Sacred Mountain where you will safely walk out and return to the current time and space. Most people experience seeing multiple animals and receive a good message to carry out on their earth walk. It can be fun, simple, healing, validating and powerful.

Preparation: Have your drum ready. Create a safe, comfortable and quiet place. Smudge and say an opening prayer.

Begin the journey: 

Get into a comfortable position… Now allow your eyes to close and begin by focusing your awareness on your breath… Breathing in and breathing out………………. Breathing in easily and effortlessly… Then breathing out slowly and softly… Each breath allows you to become more relaxed and comfortable… Outside sounds only allow you to go deeper inside…Remind yourself how good it is to leave the noise and stress of the outside world… Know that you are safe and in control of yourself… Journey into the quiet and peaceful space of your own inner world.

As you allow yourself to go deeper into a state of relaxation, perhaps you can remember a time when you stood before a pond or lake where it was quiet and peaceful. Imagine you tossed a pebble into the center and stood noticing the ripples spreading out, watching one ripple after another, flowing outward, farther and farther away from the point where the pebble landed. The ripples slow down, becoming farther apart until the water once again is calm and peaceful. I’m going to invite you now to imagine that your body is like that body of water. As you drop a pebble into the center of your body, you can feel waves of relaxation rippling out. Allow yourself to become more relaxed as these waves flow through your body. Through your torso, into your chest and your back and through your spine, spreading out into every muscle of your back. Through your shoulders and arms, up through your neck, your jaw, face, and scalp. Feel the ripples relax you as your muscles let go and become soft and loose. Feel the ripples of relaxation flowing down the bottom of your torso. Flowing through your abdomen and your pelvis. Down through your thighs, calves, ankles, and toes. Know that each time you drop a pebble into the center of your body you can become more relaxed.

Now that you are completely relaxed you are ready to begin your journey to Sacred Mountain to meet your animal spirit guides. Imagine yourself somewhere in nature… somewhere familiar to you, a safe place.

Now see yourself walking along a path and notice all the beauty around you, the trees, the grass, the mountains.

As you are heading toward Sacred Mountain… you begin to think about why you are going on this vision quest to seek answers, guidance and direction from the animals. This is the tradition of your ancestors and now it is your turn… sort of like a rite of passage.

As you look at the path ahead you realize how far you have gone already… Sacred Mountain is very close.  In the distance, standing at the base of the mountain, you see an animal guide there waiting for you. Get a good look at this animal as you approach. Notice how it is smiling at you…. grateful you have arrived.

This animal now begins to speak and explain to you that they are here to guide you through the entire experience, watching over you and keeping you safe. You reply with the same gratitude and appreciation.

Together you walk toward some large boulders then you see a cave-like opening into the mountain. Your animal says, “This is the way into the mountain where you will meet with one of your ancestors and the rest of the animals that will be with you on your journey.”

As you enter the mountain…. the womb of Mother Earth… it starts to become very dark. The moist, earthy smell stimulates all of your senses. You notice in random places along the walls… there are beautiful clusters of crystals and gemstones… glittering and shining brightly… lighting up the way.

Up ahead you see a clearing… it’s like a whole new earth. Everything is much more alive. You notice how much more colorful the plants and trees are… the water, the sky. In the middle of this clearing, you see an old human figure standing there to greet you. They are holding a beautifully hand-woven blanket that they made just for you. This is one of your ancestors… get a good look at them. They bow to you in gratitude that you have come. Then they through the blanket onto the ground… as it lands perfectly centered you look at the pattern woven carefully into the design.

You then look up at your ancestor in amazement and they smile and motion for you to sit on the blanket while you wait for the other animals to come. Without hesitation, you get comfortable and situated on the blanket and begin to look out into the distance. Your ancestor just stands near you as if they will be there to watch over you while you go off with the animals.

Now you call upon the animals that will come to guide you on your journey today… and one by one they begin to appear from the distance. Look at them as they come closer. What type of animal are they? You look closer and they are smiling, grateful to see you. Another appears, and another. Look at all of them… look into their eyes. Thank them for coming today to take you on this journey.

Now they motion for you to stand up and take their hand… and all together now, you walk off into the distance with them… knowing they will keep you safe. Trust that they will take you to wherever it is that you need to go… trusting that they will show you whatever it is that you need to see. You won’t be gone long… so let go and enjoy the journey.

NOW BEGIN DRUMMING (10 to 30 minutes)

Now, wherever you are on your journey… get a good look around you… take in all the images… remembering everything easily and effortlessly.

You can feel that your journey with the animals is now starting to come to completion so you begin to make your way back to the place inside Sacred Mountain. Slowly and safely you make your way back… remembering everything.

As you arrive back inside the mountain with your animals, you see the blanket still there… you see your ancestor also waiting patiently for you to return. You sit softly on the blanket and look around you at the animals that you just made this amazing journey with. You also know that your time with them is coming to an end… for now. But before they go, they want to offer you a message and a gift. What could this be? You listen closely to the important message that they have for you as you receive the gift. You reach out your hands to receive the gift and the message.

You bow to them in appreciation for this gift and thank them for the important message they shared with you. They bow back and say their good-bye’s. They also want you to know that you can call upon them and that you may return at any time. Then one by one they begin to walk off into the distance… except for the one that came into the mountain with you… this one is still by your side. You notice that you are feeling a deep sense of gratitude as you watch the last one disappear. Now you turn and look to your ancestor as they say to you, “Now you know… now you are ready… take this knowledge and this gift and go back out into the world… and live a good, long life.”

Your ancestor then picks up the blanket and drapes it over your shoulders… now motioning for you to begin your way back out of the mountain. You and your animal begin to make your way back through the dark passage until you see the light getting brighter and brighter.

When you emerge out of the cave and start on the path back home… you begin to remember everything about your journey… reflecting back on all the details.

You feel more alive, balanced, and a greater sense of gratitude for your life.

Ahead you see your home and as you open the door you begin to come back into your body. Take your time returning… wiggle your fingers and your toes… remembering your journey as you come back safely to this time and space. Slowly open your eyes and when you are ready.

Guided Imagery “Vision”

This guided imagery exercise is designed to help you clarify your vision and goals. When we are clear on our vision and goals then it is easier to take the right action.

Preparation: Have your journal ready to take notes.

Turn off your cell phone and anything else that may distract you.

VISION VISUALIZATION

Get into a comfortable position… Now allow your eyes to close and begin by focusing your awareness on your breath… Breathing in and breathing out………………. Breathing in easily and effortlessly… Then breathing out slowly and softly… Each breath allows you to become more relaxed and comfortable… Outside sounds only allow you to go deeper inside…Remind yourself how good it is to leave the noise and stress of the outside world… Know that you are safe and in control of yourself… Journey into the quiet and peaceful space of your own inner world.

Continue to keep your eyes closed and relax as you visualize the following questions…

First, we will focus on the financial areas of your life.
What would you like your annual income to be?
What does your cash flow look like?
How much money do you have in savings?
What investments did you make?
What is your total net worth?

Next, what does your dream home look like?
Where is it located?
What does the landscape look like around your home?
Notice what is inside your home… Walkthrough each room noticing the details of the furniture, who is there what is on the walls… fill in all the details.

Next, visualize what kind of car you are driving… See yourself driving that car… Notice what it feels like to drive that car… How did you buy that car?
Next, visualize your ideal job or career… Where are you working? … Do you own your own business? … What type of work are you doing? … Who do you work with? … What kind of clients or customers do you have? … What is your compensation like?

Now focus on your free time, your recreation time … What are you doing? … Who are you spending this free time with? … What are your sports or hobbies? … What kind of vacations do you take? … Where do you go? What do you do for fun?
Next, what is your ideal vision for your body and physical health? … What do you do to maintain your ideal body? … What do you do to stay healthy? …What foods do you eat? … Do you drink a lot of water?

Now visualize your ideal relationships … Is there a partner in your life? … What does your perfect partner look like? … What does this perfect relationship feel like? … What is your relationship with your family like? … Who are your friends? … What does your relationship with them look like? … Are they loving, supportive, and empowering? … What kinds of things do you do together? … What does your relationship with yourself look like? … Are you loving, nurturing, and happy with who you are? … What things do you do to take care of yourself?

What about your personal life? … Do you see yourself going back to school, getting training, attending workshops, seeking therapy for past hurt, or growing spiritually? … Do you meditate or go on spiritual retreats? … Do you want to learn to play a new instrument, or learn to sing? … Do you want to learn a new skill? … Do you want to write a book, run a marathon, or take an art class? … What things are you doing just for you?

Finally, focus on the community you live in… This is the community you have chosen… What does it look like when it is operating perfectly? … What kinds of community activities take place there? … What is your role in this community? … What is your charitable work?… What do you do to help others and make a difference? …How often do you participate in these activities? …
Who are you helping? … How does it make you feel to help others?

In a moment when you open your eyes, you will feel relaxed and excited, remembering all that you experienced, what you saw, and how you felt. Three, coming back to the present time…Two, stretching your body…One, eyes open, refreshed and alert.

Now take the time to write down the details of your experience. Pause here until you have written down everything you can remember.

Focus the session: Answer the following questions. Then choose one topic that you would like to work on for the remainder of the session.

  1. What do the financial areas of your life look like?
  2. Details of your home…
  3. Your vehicle?
  4. Career or business?
  5. Free time…
  6. Your body and health?
  7. Your relationship with your partner…
  8. Relationship with your family and friends…
  9. Relationship with yourself…
  10. Personal areas of your life?
  11. What do you do for yourself?
  12. The community you live in?
  13. Your participation in the community…

Create an action plan:

What was the most significant part of your vision?
Do you believe it is possible for you to have, be, or experience these things?
What could you do to bring your vision to life?

Guided Imagery “Future Self”

The Guided Imagery, Future Self exercise can help give you reassurance to where you will be in the near future. It can also help you receive messages and guidance from your higher self and from within.

Preparation: Make sure you have provided a safe and quiet place to conduct the session. Have a journal ready to take notes.

Before you begin, form a question about which you would really want to know the answer. Once you have the question, write it in your journal.

After the session, and before talking, journal about your experience or draw the images that you saw during the session. Take your time and be as detailed as possible.

FUTURE SELF VISUALIZATION

Get into a comfortable position… Now allow your eyes to close and begin by focusing your awareness on your breath…Breathing in and breathing out… easily and effortlessly…

Each breath allows you to become more relaxed and comfortable…

As you become more relaxed, you find yourself becoming more quiet and peaceful…

Now bring your attention to the spot between your eyes… the third eye.

Imagine a light there. Notice the color of the light between your eyes… Now imagine that light becoming a beam that extends out into space… Follow that beam as it leaves this building… as it travels above the city and continues out…

Now envision the space circling all around you… Keep gazing out, further and further into outer space… Notice the curvature of the earth.

As you keep going further and further out, you find yourself surrounded by the softness and quiet of space… Notice the blue-green ball below you with the white clouds whispering around it… Allow yourself to enjoy this perspective for a moment.

Now notice another beam of light very near you… a different color from the one you followed into outer space… Begin to follow the new beam of light back down to earth… This beam is taking you back to earth a number of years into the future… Keep following this beam down, noticing the geography stretched out below you.

As you come closer to the end of the beam, keep noticing where you are… This is where your future self lives, you, sometime in the future…

You might get a sense of the time frame or just know that it is sometime in the future you are visiting… Come into contact with the earth and notice where you are…Notice what dwelling and nature surround you… Now move to the dwelling of your future self…Notice what it looks like… Notice what kind of landscaping there is… Notice if there are trees and flowers… Get a good sense of this place…Notice the door to this dwelling… As you become more aware of your surroundings someone comes to the door… Identify this person as your future self… they have been waiting to greet you… you return the greeting…

Your future self… Or possibly an image that represents your higher self welcomes you into this time and place…take in this person… Notice what this image looks like and feels like… Notice how they stand… Notice what they are wearing… Get a sense of this person’s essence… Now notice the inside of this dwelling… Notice what it feels like to be in this space… Notice the colors and the energy of this place… Now move with your future self to a comfortable place for a conversation… Perhaps your future self offers you something to eat or drink… Settle in and make yourself comfortable for a talk with your future self…

There are some questions that you want to ask your future self.

Begin by asking, “What is it that you remember most about the last few years?”

Take a moment now to really listen for the answer.

Now ask your future self, “What wisdom or message do you have for me to get me from where I am now to where you are?” … “What would be most helpful?”

Really listen to what your future self has to tell you…

Good, now take a moment to ask your future self a few more important questions…

(Pause here for about thirty seconds)

Ask your future self one final question before you go… perhaps they have a gift for you to remember this experience by… Take time now to receive this gift… As you bring this visit with your future self to a close, thank them for being here with you today and for sharing so much wisdom and such a precious gift.

Now find your way back to the beam of light and journey back up the beam… watching this world of the future grow smaller and smaller as you move out into space… Again you notice the blue-green ball below you with the white clouds whispering around it. Notice that your beam of light has intersected with a different beam of light that will take you back to this year, this time, and this location… Slowly follow this beam of light back to the present time on earth… bringing back with you all that you experienced on your journey… able to recall it easily…

As you travel down this beam, notice the earth growing bigger and bigger… Moving further down the beam, notice the geography of this area, the skyline, and the landscape… Finally, come back into this room here…Good.

In a moment, when you open your eyes, please remain silent and journal everything you can remember about your journey…

Three, coming back to the present time… Two, Stretching your body…One, eyes open, refreshed and alert… Zero.

Now take quiet time now to write in your journal. (pause recording)

When using this exercise with your client: Ask a few questions…

What does your future self look like?

What were they wearing?

Where did your future self live, what did the surroundings look like, what did the inside look like?

What did you remember most about the last few years?

What wisdom or message did your future self have for you?

What gift did your future self give you?

What was the most significant part of this experience?

Describe how you felt during the journey.

Create an action plan: What action are you willing to take? What can you begin to do now that is in alignment with your future self? Write it down.

Guided Imagery “Facing Fear”

The “Facing Fear” Guided Imagery exercise can help guide you to work through your fears and possibly help to overcome what may be blocking you from moving forward in some situation. Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat. Keep in mind that there are many different physical and emotional expressions of fear. These symptoms may include:

Physical symptoms:

Difficulty breathing
Racing or pounding heart
Chest pain or tightness
Trembling or shaking
Feeling dizzy or light-headed
A churning stomach
Hot or cold flashes including tingling sensations
Sweating

Emotional symptoms:

Feeling overwhelming anxiety or panic
Feeling intense need to escape or run away
Feeling “unreal” or detached from yourself
Fear of losing control
Feeling like you’re going to die or pass out
Knowing that you’re overreacting, but feeling powerless to gain control
Avoidance

FEAR is Future Events Appearing Real or False Evidence Appearing Real.

So what do we do when we are full of fear or scared in the moment? Stop and breathe! Just breathe. Then ask yourself what you are afraid of. Next, gather the courage to face the fear. By facing it, you are deciding that it has no power over you. By running from it, you are giving your power away to it and it will continue to return until you do face it.

Preparation: Pen and paper or your journal to take notes.

Begin the Session: Begin by asking yourself a few questions about your fears. Take notes.

What are some of your fears?

What did you fear most when you were a child?

Do you ever remember being scared?

What were you scared of?

What do you fear right now?

What would it be like if you didn’t have this fear?

Now read the Facing Fear guided imagery visualization provided.

After the session, journal about your experience or draw the images seen during the session.

FACING FEAR VISUALIZATION

Get into a comfortable position…

What does it look like?

It could be a giant wall keeping you from reaching your goal… or it could be a big ugly monster roaring in your face. Whatever it may be, just know that you are now safe to face it.

Notice the details of this fear and how it is blocking you from moving forward…

What words come to your mind to describe this fear?

Where do you think this fear is coming from?

What may have happened in the past that keeps you stuck in this fear?

Now take several deep breaths… Breathing in and breathing out… easily and effortlessly…

In breathing out, release all the physical and emotional tightness you may have in your body…

Now look ahead and begin to become fully aware of your goal just on the other side of this obstacle…

Look beyond this fear… This is what you would see and experience if the fear or obstacle was removed.

Who would you be? … Where would you go? … What would you do?

Know that your goal is patiently waiting for you on the other side of this obstacle.

Is there anything stopping you from moving beyond this fear or obstacle?

What would you need to do to get over this obstacle?

All you have to do is go around or go beyond it…

Maybe you have tried to overcome this fear before… if it’s a person you have to face, go up to them and tell them the truth about how you feel.

Take your time and fully be present in this moment.

Do whatever it takes to remove the obstacle…

You are in complete control …

Now, say out loud to this fear, “YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER ME.”

You now begin to see the fear become weak and powerless…

You recognize how this fear may have served you in the past…

You also recognize what this fear was trying to teach you…

You thank the fear for serving you perfectly in your effort to achieve your goal…

Now that you have faced this fear and overcome this obstacle you begin to see an opening ahead…

As you start to move forward you begin to imagine that you are on your way to your destination… you begin to experience the magnificence of having achieved your goal.

Notice all of the things around you now…

What do you see now?

How do you feel now?

In a moment, when you open your eyes, you will easily recall and remember everything about your journey…

Three, coming back to the present time… Two, stretching your body…One, eyes open, refreshed and alert…

Questions:

What do you know now that you didn’t know when we began this session?

What was the most significant part of this experience?

What will you do now that you have overcome this fear?

When will you do it?
